WORLD HEALTH ORGANISATION QUOTE (1947)
'HEALTH IS A STATE OF COMPLETE PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND
SOCIAL WELLBEING AND NOT MERELY THE ABSENCE OF DISEASE'
At Durham House we are committed to improving and maintaining
your spinal health and well being. Our goal is not only
to make you feel better but to restore and maintain optimum
health for you and your nervous system. We always try and
educate our patients regarding their musculoskeletal condition
as we find that the more educated they are, the decreased
likelihood of relapse. To help ensure the pain doesn't return,
we recommend preventative check-ups. We also provide everyone
with suitable exercise, lifestyle and nutritional advice
to keep you healthy and pain-free.
Initial Consultation
The initial consultation is always complimentary!!
This involves sitting with one of our chiropractors and
giving them a full medical case history. After this the
chiropractor will be able to ascertain whether it is necessary
for you to have a full spinal and postural examination.
Should this be recommended your chiropractor will then give
you a thorough examination, using muscle testing, as well
as painless orthopaedic and neurological tests.
Once a diagnosis has been made the doctor will give you
a report of findings. This consists of you being provided
with information as to the nature and science behind your
condition. The doctor will also explain what your treatment
will consist of and how many sessions are required. The
cost of any treatment is always explained clearly and we're
happy to spend time answering any questions you have about
your treatment.
Treatment
Chiropractic treatment is based on the fact that your nervous
system controls every cell, tissue, organ and system of
your body. Your nervous system is made up of your brain,
spinal cord and peripheral nerves. Your spine consists of
24 vertebrae, separated by gelatinous discs, your sacrum
and coccyx.
Your spinal column has four functions:
-
To house and protect your spinal cord.
-
To support your hips and shoulders.
-
To serve as an attachment to your muscles.
-
To support your head and ribs.
The problems start when normal activities force these
bones to lose their normal position or function. This is
called a spinal misalignment. It can interfere with nerve;
brain and spinal cord function. It may cause pain and symptoms.
It may also affect your muscles, joints and discs.
Chiropractors spend 1000s of hours and many years mastering
the science and art of locating and correcting vertebral
malalignments. At Durham House we focus on the causes not
the symptoms! Symptoms are just the body's way of drawing
attention to a problem; once the causes have been treated,
the symptoms will usually disappear.
